General Discussion / Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
« Last post by Jim (Chairman) on 24/12/2015, 01:25:04 PM »

I'll post this early as I probably won't get a chance tomorrow....

Just to say "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" to all Greenaces members, friends and family!

It's been a pleasure and a privilege to fly with all of you in 2015, and here's looking forward to plane filled, clear skies and great flying weather in 2016...

Many thanks, your very proud Chairman, Jim Mchugh

Not sure how this build went as a couple of years old.
I have started the 71" version now and definitely will see the undercarriage as the stumbling block.
Will probably modify this as only have hand tools, no lathe or mill.

General Discussion / 40cc Engines

Most members will be aware that the club rule appertaining to the maximum I.C. engine size has changed. What hasn't changed however is the maximum noise level permitted of 82 dB at 7 metres.  I  believe it is fare to say there has been "mission creep" on the noise level of a few models this year. Spot checks will be carried out in future, therefore I strongly recommend that members who suspect the validity of their equipment (old or new)s get it checked by the club's noise metre and if necessary source a better muffler.

« Last post by Jim (Chairman) on 03/12/2015, 12:06:03 PM »
All,

Well we managed to do the AGM and the Rejoining Night all in one evening last night!

Thanks to all the committee for their efforts.

A couple of announcements:

Congratulations to Abbie Wagstaff for winning the Best Newcomer award!

Congratulations to Reg Lewis for winning the Best Club Member award!

Both very worthy winners, I'm sure you'll agree...

Our thanks goes to Reg for his 7 years of sterling service as GMAC Chairman, and we look forward to seeing him at the flying field in the near future...

Cheers!

This weeks progress.

A structurally complete main wing, complete with tips (which are trickier than I thought)...

Shape the leading edge tonight and then start on the fuz...

Cheers!

Not much progress this weekend, mainly due to actually being able to fly for once!

Just put the hinge support block into the trailing edge (need to be shaped) and started on the centre sheeted section...

More to follow, this week I should be able to finish the trailing edge, shape the leading edge and generally finish the wing...

Cheers Danny!

All ribs have been hand-cut, but there's only 12 in total.

I went for liteply instead of balsa as it would produce a sharper edge and weight is not a serious concern.

First time I ever done a fully built-up wing, so all a learning experience...

Looking most excellent Jim, very tidy building! 3mm liteply for ribs, might be a little overkill? Have you CNC'ed these?

Cheers
Danny
