Maxthrust Riot with Mobius camera...
« on: 23/03/2015, 06:50:25 PM »
All,

A quick video from my Riot with a Mobius Actioncam mounted on the top of the wing.

Trying (and FAILING) to do nice flat left-hand circuits. Did a couple of nose-down runs along the strip and you can just see the crowd we had on Sunday. John Peak counted 22 pilots at one point.

I flew from 10:00 to 15:45 and got through many batteries!

I came in way to steep on final approach to try to catch the flightline, but hit way too hard and launched the camera off its mounting!

The Mobius is programmed to only record while connected to it's external power source so it stopped recording immediately.

Hopefully (if the whole setup survives till then) I will have a video ground station for the kids (and maybe some adults) to watch at the May Fun Fly.

It might help if a learnt the fly it a little better...

Anyway here's the video on YouTube...

Hi Jim

Lovely video. As you found out, you need to fly the plane and not try to point the camera using the elevator  ;D

I wonder if a view along the underside of the wing might be better if you want a shot of people?
I've also seen a weighted gimbal, so that the camera moves towards whichever side of the plane is low, by gravity. Can't find it again now though.

(Can you remember if we used to have youtubed embedding automatically on this forum? I think we did)

Chris,

I think you might have switched off the YouTube embed feature due to some security issues...

Yes, you're right, fly the plane NOT try to be a camera-man....!

Will hopefully get it "smoother" for the May Fun Fly...

BTW, managed to keep a RadJet in the air all of one minute also.

Question: Is there not some way of tell the Taranis TX to log all telemetry for a certain model? So far I can only find how to enable it using a switch....

Cheers!

PS: Just to be clear, this video was shot line of sight, NOT using a monitor or goggle etc...

Well done on the Radjet.

On my Taranis I set the telemetry to record all the time the motor is armed.
So it's just set to record by the same switch.
That way I never forget, but it's not running all the time the Tx is on.

Chris,

Could you tell me what your Taranis "GPS Coordinate Format" setting under the "Radio" setup page is set to? Either "DMS" or "NMEA".

Trying to load GPS tracks into Google Earth, but it keeps putting me at the North Pole, even thought there are definately non-zero numbers recorded.

Cheers!

Mine's set to DMS, Jim.

One problem I had was when part of a telemetry recording was made before the GPS had got lock (I think) or trying to load more than one flight.
I think that picking the particular fly session in OpenTx, before hitting the big globe, sorted that out.

Try the attached file (remove the .jpg extension)
Load it in OpenTx. Then select fly session at 19:06:22
Then hit the globe.
