Chippy has won silver in two consecutive British Nationals, will the third time be the charm?

Kits / Re: Free Flight Indoor Nationals 2016

The Nationals were great and I had a great time. The little Se5a placed 15th out of 30 in static, I am not sure why it didn't do better. I couldn't have made it more to the plan????
As for the flying I did as well as I could considering the trimming time I had, I think it went okay, need to flatten the turns and increase the altitude, but it is getting there :)

Kits / Free Flight Indoor Nationals 2016
« on: 22/04/2016, 11:18:55 PM »
For those of you that don't know, the British Indoor Free Flight Nationals take place a week on Sunday (May 1st) at Wolverhampton University.
I went last year and it was really interesting, I swore then that I must have a go. Of course I left it until just a few weeks before the event before deciding I would enter this year. Anyway in 19 days I managed to turn a kit into a model, so if you come along on Sunday you will see loads of fantastic models........ and mine  ???

I have entered kit class, which means the model has to be built and decorated EXACTLY to the plan. Those that know me know how difficult I find it to not add detail, well in kit class you are not allowed! So it has been very refreshing, to not even be able to choose the tissue to use!
The model spans just 17" and before adding the rubber motor weighs a whopping 26g.

Maybe see you there?

Holy cow Batman that is one strong wing, not sure I have seen a centre section sheeting notched for spars like that, but if that is how it is designed who am I to argue  ::)

Looking good though, keep going

That is rather daft Jim, you know B&Q could have matched the colour ;)

Club night chat / Resin Casting demo - Jan 27th Clubnight

Just wanted to say a big thanks to those that suffered through my moulding and casting demo. Parts were a bit like watching paint dry or I should say resin setting  ???

I appreciate many are not quite as bonkers as I am when it comes to detailing, but several people said they enjoyed witnessing my insanity.

The encouraging words re my Chipmunk have me all rejuvinated and ready to finish off the scale documention, roll on the first comp!

Cheers

Looking most excellent Jim, very tidy building! 3mm liteply for ribs, might be a little overkill? Have you CNC'ed these?

Hi Jim I can let you have a couple of sheets of white 2mm if that's any use?

Trouble with a smaller table is you get less people around it. Chris and I were musing over having a camera feed to the centre of the table, projected onto a screen, so the closeup stuff could be seen by everyone. This was when i was toying with a litho forming session. With me it's all a lack of time.......

My Modelling MOJO has left the building, it will be back no doubt, just not present currently.
No glassing issues but several people have asked to see how I do it, I have made videos on the subject but it still seems to be something people want to see in the flesh.

No the glassing would have to be carefully carried home afterwards. There is no way it would set in time  ;)

well done for bringing all the gear and taking the time to explain the techniques, I was a bit on the periphery but listened in to some sections, you did a great job well done :)

I hope to do something similar on glassing and peel ply, if my MOJO ever returns   :-[
