Title: Free Public WiFi for the June Fun Fly?
Post by: Jim (Chairman) on 04/06/2014, 02:14:48 PM

All,

I have a small unit that can supply free public WiFi access via a pre-paid 3G modem.

It can be battery powered from a Lead Acid battery for use in a field.

The WiFi connection does not need any access key or password, so we could just put a sign up saying:

"Free WiFi Access! Please connect to wireless network GreenacresMAC"

Obviously the WiFi Access Point uses the 2.4GHz band so the questions are:

1) Would we want to deploy / offer free WiFi Internet access at the Fun Fly?

2) Is it a good idea to have another 2.4GHz radio source on the flying field?

Comments please....

Cheers!

Jim

Hi Jim
This is a nice idea.
While I don't think it could possibly affect a model, I do think there's the potential that it could be blamed in the event of a visitor having a mishap.

I also think that a lot of people will have their own internet connections by mobile phone anyway.

Chris,

Transmitter fade? That what be really bad!

Most people rely on their own data connection.

Also, I've never seen "Free Public WiFi" offered at any of the big shows like Weston Park.

That'll stay in the garage then...

Cheers for the feedback

Jim
