Title: Wiggo!
Post by: Jim (Chairman) on 21/11/2015, 12:07:02 PM
All,

Looks like the Winter 2015 build season is upon us.

First plan build on the table is Max Z's "Wiggo"

36" span, balsa and ply built-up construction. Electric running a 35-36 1000kV motor on 3S 2200mAh LiPos. 4 x 12g servos.

Colour Scheme: TBD but have contacted the designer and had a "Cheese" based scheme approved.

General Shape...

Looking most excellent Jim, very tidy building! 3mm liteply for ribs, might be a little overkill? Have you CNC'ed these?

Cheers

Cheers Danny!

All ribs have been hand-cut, but there's only 12 in total.

I went for liteply instead of balsa as it would produce a sharper edge and weight is not a serious concern.

First time I ever done a fully built-up wing, so all a learning experience...

Not much progress this weekend, mainly due to actually being able to fly for once!

Just put the hinge support block into the trailing edge (need to be shaped) and started on the centre sheeted section...

More to follow, this week I should be able to finish the trailing edge, shape the leading edge and generally finish the wing...

This weeks progress.

A structurally complete main wing, complete with tips (which are trickier than I thought)...

Shape the leading edge tonight and then start on the fuz...

Cheers!

Holy cow Batman that is one strong wing, not sure I have seen a centre section sheeting notched for spars like that, but if that is how it is designed who am I to argue  ::)

Looking good though, keep going
