All,
Some photos of my Hobbyking Extra 300 36" (944mm) sport plane.
I'm hoping to develop my flying ability and graduate onto this aircraft over the Spring of 2015. I'll mainly be practising with my Riot and then my Whizza. Hopefully by the May Fun Fly I might actually having something more interesting to fly. I really like the shape of the Extras / CAP232 / Slicks etc.

That looks very nice Jim, especially the carry case and the prop.
It will be interesting to fly for sure.

Agreed! A 36" 640gram aircraft will need light wind conditions for sure!
Carry case is a bit of a mess because I used cheap (rubbish) yellow paint for the last coat and it went a bit wrong.
Prop is an 8" (8x6E = 145w on 3S) by TGS Sport from Hobbyking, painted with good quality yellow spray and balanced with matched nail varnish...!
I've power tested it on a 4S with an APC 8x4E prop and it give 222 watts which is about 160+ watts per pound so it would go like stink!

Cheers Danny, that means a lot coming from a modeller of your calibre...
My ethos is to build everything as if it's "static scale" and it will probably fly alright...
Scale? One day, that's where I'm heading, one day...

Maidened!
Flew a battery worth of flights at the field today. No wind.
Doesn't perform very well on the ground, wants to steer all over the place!
Once in the air, very well behaved. Slightly nose down to begin with but trimmed out now.
Took a BIG hop on the last landing and bumped a wingtip. Split the wing root rib where it anchors to the fuz. Easy fix / strengthen and didn't even tear the covering!
First thing I learnt today is with small light planes the landings have got to be VERY delicate and shallow. Actually found it easier to land in the longer grass off the far side of the strip. Takes the airspeed out better than the hard strip...?

You might find it a bit easier to land with a tiny bit of power on.
But of course that also might make it float straight past..

Yes, I'm doing all my landings now with power on. More predictable. Fly them onto the ground gently...
With the power off you have to get the timing bang on or even the Riot stalls out and goes mushy. Sometimes if you get a bit of a bounce or the wind goes away, you've got no airspeed to control...
Just missed a bargin Phoenix 2000 glider, complete with everything including batterys for sale on RCM&E, new built and unflown. £60 but it's just sold this afternoon.

Sounds like you're really moving on Jim :)
I won't be out Sat as we have house viewings booked.
Sunday - there's a very slight chance, which probably means the weather will be poor.
You fancy a P2000? Well, some of my models have to go.. mine would come with a full Taranis setup and a spare fus and tail - and a trial flight first.
You just have to persuade me to sell it (shouldn't be too hard).
There is a growing list of other possibilities too...
Fancy a 1400mm foam Hellcat? or a little funfighter Miss America Mustang?

Er, well, I don't feel I'm moving on. I really need someone to instruct me in the twiddly bits while I'm flying but that's a big ask at the field...
Trashed my primary learning plane (Riot) last weekend and that's still being rebuilt.
Yeah, the Phoenix 2000 looked good 'cos I know you've got one (so it can't be bad) and it was basically complete.

Quite ugly but described as a "sports trrainer" which is what I think I need. Low wing, more roll rate etc.
Sunday weather is not looking that good, sunny with a 10 mph cross wind.
Will you be at the May Fun Fly? I could do with some help maidening some more planes: Sukhoi SU-31 36", my Whizza (my maiden) etc

I'm sure I'll be at the May fly in, but I'm not sure about the caravan or just when, everythings a bit up in the air at the mo.
If I can get to fly on Sunday it will be towards the end of the IC session, or possibly late afternoon.
I'll bring the P2000 if I come.
The best weather I can see in the coming week looks to be during clubnight - DOH!
